“BOB! WHAT THE FUCK!” – A Look at McFarlane's Tortured Souls Series 2: Suffering Bob

There are horror collectibles that scream menace, others that ooze cool. Then… there’s Suffering Bob

He doesn’t scream. He groans. Loudly. In pain. Endlessly. Probably while asking for his union rep.

Originally, I picked up Suffering Bob thinking he’d make a killer demon to add to my horror shelf. But now that I’ve spent time with him? I’m convinced he doesn’t belong among demons or hellspawn at all. Nah, this poor bastard—er, bastards—looks more like he stumbled out of Bioshock or Silent Hill after an unpaid internship at Rapture’s Mad Science Academy.

The Gruesome Rundown:

Released in 2002 by McFarlane Toys, Tortured Souls Series 2: The Fallen dives even deeper into the grotesque mind of Clive Barker. Suffering Bob is officially described as a "mutation involving the combination of several humans into one grotesque creature." He’s somewhere between Cronenberg and Cenobite, held together with more staples and leather than a goth club’s lost-and-found bin.

Let’s talk measurements: Bob stands around 5 inches tall in body, but those horrific, jagged appendages push him to about 7 inches total. Depending on how you interpret all the twisted limbs, faces, and bondage gear, this figure may contain two, possibly three humans fused together into one… highly dysfunctional situation.

The Breakdown:

  • Articulation: Neck, shoulders, and right wrist. Also, the two cybernetic blade appendages on his back are removable and feature multiple moving parts.

  • Accessories: Removable blood-spattered mechanical claws. Removable facemask.

  • Detailing: Insane. Skinless torsos. Sewn-on arms. Spinal cords that connect from one body into another. Seriously, someone needs a wellness check at McFarlane HQ circa 2002.

One of the bodies is lean, skinless, masked, and bound—almost crawling like an unwilling centaur. The other is a bloated mass of scarred meat with mechanical limbs and flesh flaps stitched up like homemade taxidermy. There's even a random third face on the back, just in case you weren't already uncomfortable enough.

Real Talk from the Tiger:

When I first cracked this thing open, I was ready to file it under "Hellraiser Fodder." But the more I looked at Bob—really looked—I started seeing him differently. Like… what if Bob isn’t a monster? What if he’s just a good dude (or several good dudes) caught up in someone else's horror show? Now I can’t stop thinking of him as some poor lab assistant stitched together by a psycho science overlord.

Honestly, I look at Bob and all I want to do is shout:
"BOB! WHAT THE FUCK!"
...and you just know the evil doctor says that every time he walks in the room. Hell, I say it at least once a day now.

And you know what? Despite the carnage, the leather, the blood and the blades, I get the sense Bob is kinda... sweet? Like if you left him alone in your lab he'd water the plants and try not to knock things over with his mechanical arms. He just wants to help. It's not his fault he’s built like the aftermath of a horror-themed three-legged race gone wrong.

Final Verdict:

  • Visual Impact: 10/10. He could be the centerpiece of your body-horror display.

  • Image: Grotesque, large humanoid figure with pale, textured skin and black hair, wielding a mechanical, blood-stained blade arm. It is attacking or restraining a smaller figure dressed in pink and black, both posed on a dark, industrial platform.

  • Creep Factor: 12/10. The more you stare, the more disturbing it gets.

  • Image: Close-up of a muscular, wounded action figure with exposed red flesh, black hair, and gloves. Background features a yellow brain-like object with metal rods and a glowing yellow sword, creating a sci-fi horror atmosphere.

  • Poseability: Not the best, but not the point.

  • Display Vibes: Would look perfect with Bioshock, Silent Hill, Hellraiser, or The Thing figures.

If you collect horror, if you like your figures with a side of existential dread, or if you're the type to say “it’s not a real shelf until it makes guests uncomfortable,” Suffering Bob is for you.
