🐍 Mythic Legions Ninian Infantry: Snake Year, Snake Power, Snake Love 🐍
“In 2025—the Year of the Snake—this warrior sl ithered right into my collection like fate itself.”
Surprise-dropped at LegionsCon 2024, the Ninian Infantry may not be Mythic Legions’ biggest or flashiest release, but it’s one of the most meaningful—and most irresistible. From the Mesoamerican aesthetic to the symbolic reversal of the “snake = evil” trope, this figure coils itself around some big themes and delivers both playability and cultural richness.

And yes, I bought two.
🐍 A Serpent’s Lore
Faction: Convocation of Bassylia
Race: Coatl
Role: Soldier
Image: Two serpent warrior action figures posed in dramatic combat. Both figures have vibrant red, blue, and yellow scales, gold armor, and blue capes. They appear to be grappling mid-air, with one figure holding the other by the arm. The background is a dark, moody forest scene.

The Ninian Infantry once marched proudly in service to Bassylia—the Winged Serpent goddess of order. These snake-souled soldiers are from the Coatl, a race whose young are born with legs and transform with wisdom into serpentine sages or mages. Deep lore, and a beautifully non-western cultural echo.
✨ Cultural Win: Representation with Scales
Let’s just hiss it out honestly—Mythic Legions has, until recently, leaned very euro-fantasy and white-centric. This drop’s vibrant Aztec/Mesoamerican inspired sculpting is a powerful breath of fresh air. With bold colors, geometric shield sigils, and feathered loincloths, these warriors feel plucked straight from an ancient sun temple—and placed right alongside the good guys.
Image: Two vibrant serpent warriors in gold armor and blue capes are locked in battle with Snizzard, the snake-themed villain from Power Rangers. The serpent warriors wield a spear and shield, while Snizzard, with his pale, twisted body, snake limbs, and signature red flower on his head, aims his bow at them. The dramatic scene is set against a dark forest backdrop, with bright lighting highlighting the action and details of each figure.

Yep, they’re heroes. No evil cult, no serpent overlord—they fight for order and light. That alone made my shelf a little more balanced… and a whole lot sexier.
💋 The Touch Factor: Tactile Heaven
As a blind collector, I get hands-on in the most literal way. And baby, this figure is pure hand candy. From the ridged tail to the layered armor and textured scales, this toy feels amazing in the hand.
Still, one thing I'd love to see more of? Tactile symbols on shields. When you can’t see, orientation gets confusing—are my warriors holding their banners with honor or upside-down like embarrassed interns? Adding raised symbols would elevate this from good to legendary.

💸 Value That Slaps
At only $37 USD, this “basic” figure is anything but basic. You're getting:
-
2 beautifully sculpted heads (open & closed mouth)
-
12 hands (!!)
-
Shoulder armor, loincloth, tail, necklace
-
Spear, mace, and shield
Image: A collection of eight interchangeable action figure hands, sculpted with reptilian scales and claws. The hands are painted yellow with dark blue fingers, arranged on a flat surface under dramatic lighting.
[
]It’s the kind of spread that deluxe figures dream of.

😏 My Playful Peeves

Too. Many. Hands. I’d gladly trade half for another head or armor bits to army-build more easily.
-
No weapon storage—can’t my serpent boi get a belt or sheath?
-
Articulation’s still limited (and let’s be honest, snake dudes should coil)
-
Shoulder pauldrons fall off too easily
-
Neck joint looks awkward without the armor
-
Weapons droop from loose grip—performance anxiety much? 😘
-
The open mouth sculpt is begging for a tongue-out variant. Come on… you know you want it.
🌈 Final Bite: A Shelf Gamechanger
Ninian Infantry isn’t just a toy—it’s a turning point.
✅ It adds much-needed cultural flavor
✅ It flips snake tropes upside-down
✅ It delivers fun, feel, and fantasy
Image: Three action figures in a protective formation. At the center stands a regal sorceress in green and gold armor with a purple cape, holding an ornate staff. Flanking her are two serpent warriors in gold armor and blue capes, standing alert with weapons ready. Their stances and positioning make it clear they are guarding and defending her, creating a scene of loyalty and magical authority against a dark forest backdrop.
