AxyToys Dinosaur Battlefield: Ceratosaurus Tribe Commander “Large Roof” Review

Let’s start with the obvious: yes, “Large Roof” is a stupid name. Like… what even is that? Sounds like a roofing company mascot. But once you peel back that unfortunate moniker, what you get is a striking, prehistoric warlord loaded with enough armor and accessories to make a Mythic Legion blush—and trust me, this one’s got presence.
I picked this beast up while visiting my love Desi down in California—so there’s a special energy already baked into this one. Maybe that’s why I didn’t give up halfway through assembling the fuck-ton of parts. Maybe it was the romance. Or maybe I was just too stubborn to let this horned bastard win. 😈

Sculpt & Paint – Bone Daddy in Full Battle Gear
Image: Orange and beige dinosaur warrior action figure, wearing spiked metallic armor and a horned helmet, holds a dinosaur skull-shaped shield. Posed before a blue, fantasy stone archway backdrop with barren trees.

This figure looks absolutely savage once he's fully kitted out. The Ceratosaurus leader sports blood-streaked blades, scarred armor, bone trophies, leathery straps, and what might be a sabretooth skull hanging off his massive shoulder plates. The armor is modular and fully removable, giving you the choice to display him stripped down or maxed out—but trust me, go full tilt Barbarian. It’s where the magic lives.

Paint applications are tight: weathered steel tones, grimy blood spatters, dirty bone, and realistic wear on his faux leather bits. The red head sculpt (on the "White Version" body—yeah, we noticed the irony) contrasts beautifully with the pale, tiger-striped skin and the pop of green in his eyes.

Articulation – Big, Spiky, and Surprisingly Agile
Despite all that gear, he moves decently well. Here's the breakdown:
-
Head & Neck:
Hinged jaw, tilting head, rotating neck—he can snarl, glare, or roar with great range. Image: Orange and beige dinosaur warrior figure with textured scales, open mouth, green eyes, black fur collar, spiked horned helmet, bone and metal shoulder armor, and a large, ornate necklace with skull details.
[
]-
Torso:
Ball-jointed diaphragm cut + lower waist rotation. Solid crunch and twist, even with the armor. Image: The figure stands upright with legs apart, arms bent and fists clenched, flexing in a display of strength. Head tilted up, mouth open wide, expressing a fierce, triumphant roar.
[
]-
Arms:
Ball shoulders, bicep swivels, 90° elbows, and ball-hinged wrists. Watch the spikes though—they will fight back. Image: Close-up of the dinosaur warrior’s raised right arm, bent at the elbow with clawed hand open. The arm features detailed orange scales, black striping, and prominent muscle definition.
[
]-
Legs:
Full outward splits, strong forward range, thigh swivels, single-jointed knees (~90°), and finally—ankle rockers. (A much-needed fix from earlier figures in the line.) Image: The lower body features textured, orange-and-black striped scales, a thick, curled tail, and armored legs with brown leather-like straps, metallic spikes, and clawed feet, giving a fierce, reptilian appearance.
[
]-
Tail:
Partially wired with hinge movement. Not wildly poseable, but enough to swing it menacingly.
And yes, a few pieces will pop off if you handle him too aggressively. I’ve had spikes fly like ninja stars just trying to pose his arm. This ain't a toy for clumsy hands.
Size Matters – And This Guy Delivers
Image: Two detailed fantasy action figures: green, winged Sauron from Marvel in the background, and a heavily armored warrior with a horned helmet and axe in the foreground, against a mystical backdrop.
[
]
He may not be as big as the Blood Blade T-Rex, but don’t let the "smaller" title fool you. Large Roof stands over 8 inches tall, making him beefier than your average Marvel Legend or Mythic Legions figure.
For reference, he’s about the same size as NECA’s Secret of the Ooze Super Shredder—aka big, intimidating, and shelf-dominating.
Image: Two fantasy action figures: one is a horned, armored warrior with a skull shield and spiked armor; the other is a muscular, blue-skinned creature with horned helmet, holding a large battle axe.
[
]
He displays beautifully alongside Mythic Legions, Savage Crucible, and Animal Warriors of the Kingdom—basically any fantasy or beast-themed lines. He’s a real crossover king.

Accessories – A Love Letter to Sadomasochism
Image: A rugged, torn brown cloak with jagged holes, adorned with spiked faux bone and metal armor pieces, and a necklace of imitation teeth and bones. It resembles fantasy orc or barbarian attire.

]
You want accessories? You got 'em. In fact, you might have too many.
⚠️ This figure comes with what feels like 71 separate armor and decor pieces.
No, I didn’t count. I’m not that masochistic. But trust me, there’s a fuck-ton of removable spikes, fangs, bones, hooks, and tusks—enough to make you question your life choices about 40 minutes into the build.

[
]
Putting him together took me the better part of an hour, and once fully armored, he looks absolutely savage—but I’ve now reached that sacred collector stage of “look, but don’t touch.” Because with this much modularity, it’s not a matter of if something will fall off, but when.

Weapons & Soft Goods Include:
-
A huge bone-handled cleaver with blood splatter
-
A spiked blade with brass knuckle hilt
-
A ridiculously oversized Triceratops skull shield (YES.)
-
A tattered, wired cloak with battle damage
-
Bone trophy chains and a tribal necklace
-
Swappable hands for various grip styles
The weapons are chunky and gnarly, though the grip is a bit weak—don’t expect tight holds unless you add some tack or mod it slightly.
Lore – Ceratosaur Shield Warlord
According to the box bio (which reads like a fever dream translated by Google at 3am), Large Roof is:
-
The leader of the Ceratosaurus tribe, known for its elite shield phalanx
-
Trained since youth in disciplined, balanced warfare
-
A war hero in the Snow Plains campaign, leading his tribe to minimal casualties
-
Instrumental in trapping the herbivore King Sibiar, allowing Blood Blade to deal the killing blow
-
Now one of Blood Blade’s most trusted commanders, alongside the Carnotaurus tribe
Don’t mind the part where the bio mistakenly says Triceratops were allies—it clearly meant Ceratosaurus. Herbivores and carnivores don’t party together. Not unless there’s a BBQ. 🥩
Final Thoughts – Worth It?

This is my second AxyToys figure. And while it's not as premium as Blood Blade (who had real leather straps and working metal buckles, the smug bastard), Large Roof is still an impressive beast.
Is he perfect? Nope.
-
His name is laughable.
-
His hands barely hold anything.
-
His modular armor makes me want to scream.
But once he’s fully armed and looming on your shelf?
He’s magnificent.

This figure is a tribute to gritty, over-the-top fantasy—Frazetta meets Jurassic Park meets Conan. And if that’s your jam, you’ll find a lot to love.
Just don’t drop him. Or bump him. Or breathe too hard in his direction.
