**Masterverse Series 2 Beast Man — A Hands-On Review**
WATCH THE VIDEO REVIEW HERE;
I’ll be honest: I never grew up deep into *Masters of the Universe*. Sure, one of my earliest toy memories involves Skeletor riding Panthor like the absolute purple-pelted badass he is—back in 1984, if I’m remembering right—but MOTU proper wasn’t what hooked me as a kid. I was a Thundercats and TMNT boy through-and-through.
Image: An action figure of an orange-skinned, muscled creature with exaggerated features. It has prominent white teeth, and white markings on its face. The figure is wearing a blue outfit with a belt that has two yellow X shapes on it. Its hands and body are large and muscular, and it has brown sculpted hair and beard with two braids. The image is taken from above, giving a clear view of the figure's head and torso.
]And let’s be real… trying to collect MOTU or MOTUC in the 2000s felt like trying to join some secret Mattel cult. “Subscribe to this membership—jump through that hoop.” Yeah, no thanks. So over the years, I only cherry-picked whatever went on sale or showed up cheap on eBay—usually the B-listers—but the Four Horsemen sculpts always impressed.
Image: Two fantasy action figures posed as if in battle. The figure standing on the right is tall and covered in textured white fur, with blue skin on its face, hands, and feet. It has large feet with prominent claws, is holding a long green staff, and features blue and green decorative elements on its chest and head.
The figure on the left, lower down, is muscular with orange skin and a blue loincloth. It is holding a black weapon with a chain, looking up toward the white-furred figure as if confronting it.
The background appears to be a printed image of a dark forest scene. The figures are positioned on a flat surface, with bright lighting around them and some ornamental carvings partially visible at the top of the scene.

But when Mattel relaunched the franchise with **Masterverse** (2021, for those wondering), I finally had a line that was accessible, affordable, and didn’t require blood sacrifice or a hidden password. And since I only collect the more *fantasy* style characters, **Beast Man** was instantly on my radar.
Image: Close-up view of the orange-skinned action figure with exaggerated muscular features. The figure is shown from a low angle, highlighting its detailed muscle texture and fur sculpting on the shoulders and chin. It has a brown beard with two braids, three horn-like protrusions on its head, and white markings around the eyes. The character is wearing a blue loincloth with a brown belt that has yellow "XX" stitching. Part of a weapon with a black handle and chain is visible behind the figure.

### **Value & Availability**
For **$23 USD**, these figures are shockingly good value. Unique sculpts, decent accessories, solid articulation—compare that to Marvel Legends at $25 for smaller bodies and minimal extras? Yeah, this line is a bargain.
Image: Six interchangeable action figure hands, each molded in an orange color and featuring detailed sculpting to resemble fur and fingers. The set includes a mix of closed fists, open hands with fingers spread, and partially open hands. Some of the hands have individually sculpted fingernails that are darker in color. The hands have small peg connectors.

And bless the toy gods: **you can actually get them on Amazon now**. Not always easy in Canada, but way better than the dark days of Mattel “exclusivity hell.”
Image: A small black plastic accessory designed to look like a weapon, likely for an action figure. It resembles a handle or hilt with a trigger-like feature and an attached twisted cord or whip loop made from flexible, braided material. The overall look is stylized and meant for a fantasy or adventure-themed figure.

### **Build, Sculpt & Articulation**
Beast Man is a **chunky, 7-inch brute** who blends beautifully with Animal Warriors of the Kingdom and Mythic Legions displays. His sculpt is rich with **fur texture**, **scars**, and that post-Skeletor “wandering feral warlord” energy.
Image: Two action figures posed as if in mid-battle. The figure in the background is the orange-skinned, muscular creature with blue loincloth shown earlier, holding a black whip-like weapon. In the foreground is a black-furred gorilla-like action figure dressed in ornate gold armor, including a helmet, chest plate, and shin guards. This armored gorilla figure is standing on a black circular base for support and is wielding a large silver axe with both hands.

Key articulation highlights:
* **Double-jointed elbows & knees**
* **Excellent torso hinge**
* **Multiple hands** (weapon-holding pair, fists, clawing set)
* **Soft rubber loincloth** that doesn’t restrict movement
Image: The orange-skinned, muscular action figure is positioned in an upright stance with its hands raised near its face, as if expressing surprise or preparing to shout. The figure has distinct features including three horns on its forehead, white face markings, and a bushy brown beard with braids. It is wearing a blue loincloth with a brown belt and yellow cross-stitch details. The background is a dark forest-themed image.

And hallelujah—**weapon storage!** A nice loop on the belt holds his whip. Every action figure with a weapon should have this. Every. Single. One.
Image: An orange-skinned, muscular action figure is shown from the side, leaning forward with one arm extended outward. The character is wearing a blue loincloth with a brown belt, and there’s a black weapon with a chain tucked into the belt at the figure’s back. The figure features sculpted fur details, a brown beard, and wristbands.

### **Accessories & Weak Points**
But speaking of that whip… oof. It’s basically a limp piece of string attached to a handle. No wire. No poseability. No drama. Yes, real whips go limp, but toy whips shouldn’t. Give us hard plastic or give us bendy wire.
Image: The orange-skinned, muscular action figure is posed in a dynamic stance. It is holding a black weapon with a handle and a twisted cord or whip in its right hand raised above its head, as if swinging or preparing to strike. The figure's face, adorned with three horns and white face markings, is pointed directly at the camera, showing its fierce expression and detailed sculpting. It has a blue, tattered-looking loincloth with a brown belt featuring yellow 'X' stitches, brown wristbands, and rings on its left ankle.

My copy also came with a **ridiculously loose left calf swivel**—I mean floppy. First his whip is limp, now his leg’s loose… someone get this man a doctor.
Image: The orange-skinned action figure is posed with its left arm raised high above its head and its right arm bent, holding a black weapon with a twisted cord or whip. The figure wears a blue loincloth with a brown belt decorated with yellow "XX" stitched patterns, brown wristbands, and a silver ankle ring. Its expressive face, three horn-like protrusions on the forehead, and detailed sculpting of fur and muscles are clearly visible.

The **ankles are gummy**, too, which makes some poses—especially wide stances—a little unstable.
### **Final Thoughts**
Image: The image shows the orange-skinned, muscular action figure performing a handstand. The figure is upside down, balanced on both hands with its arms extended and body angled downward. Its legs are pointed upward, and it is wearing a blue loincloth with a brown belt. The sculpted fur texture on its upper back and head is visible. There is a black weapon with a braided cord tucked into the belt at the waist.

Still, for the price? Beast Man delivers. A unique sculpt, great textures, good articulation choices, impressive presence on the shelf, and tons of character. Considering the line’s price point and availability, Masterverse continues to be one of Mattel’s smartest moves in years.
Image: Three action figures are grouped together in a dramatic, action-oriented pose. In the foreground, the orange-skinned, muscular figure is positioned at the bottom, holding a black whip-like weapon in his right hand and a large green claw or blade accessory in his left. He is wearing a blue loincloth with a brown belt and has sculpted fur and detailed features.
Directly above him is a blue and orange figure with feline-like features, including pointed ears, sharp teeth, and a mask-like face. This character is dressed in orange, tattered shorts with blue and yellow armored leg guards. The figure holds a large, curved green sword raised in one hand and a blue staff in the other, creating a dynamic, combat-ready stance.
Partially visible in the background at the top is another action figure with red skin, a yellow-green belt or accessory, and cream-colored fur across the chest. Only the lower half of this figure is visible.
The background is a dark, forest-themed poster that adds a sense of adventure and atmosphere to the scene. Bright ring light illumination enhances the colors and details of the figures, making the setup appear vibrant and lively, as if they are a team ready for battle.
