**Veteris Rapax – Savage Crucible (Harvinger Studios) Figure Review**
Sometimes a toy doesn’t win you over with plastic… it wins you over with **story**. That’s exactly what happened here. I was fully prepared to skip Veteris Rapax. Another reuse of the familiar Savage Crucible lizardman base body, familiar armor lineage, hands we’ve seen before — my collector brain was ready to move on.
Image: A close-up photo of a reptilian humanoid action figure, upright. The figure has green, bumpy, lizard-like skin with orange markings and orange eyes. It’s wearing red armor with silver spikes, including a large spiked collar/shoulder piece around the neck and upper chest. One clawed hand is raised and holding a small gold-colored curved weapon/handle. The torso armor has red and silver decorative details, and there’s an ornate patterned piece extending down from the waist.

Image: A close-up photo of a green reptilian action figure posed as if flying or lunging toward the camera. Its head is turned slightly to the left, and one clawed hand is extended forward in the foreground, with the fingers curled and black-tipped claws visible. The figure’s skin is textured and bumpy, with darker blue/black striping along the limbs and back, and a tan/orange belly and chest. A dark strap or belt crosses the waist area. The lighting is strong and cool-toned (bluish), creating bright highlights on the hand and arm and deep shadows on the face.

Then I read the bio.
Game over. I bought two. Because a commander like this needs at least one Blood Reaver at his side.

## 🐊 WHO IS VETERIS RAPAX?
Veteris Rapax translates to **“Veteran Warrior,”** or more literally, **“Old Predator.”** The name fits perfectly. He was born a runt in a military caste clutch. Unable to dominate physically, he sharpened his intellect instead, studying behavior, strategy, and military history from both Old and New Lemuria. Over time, his ascension molts refined his body until his strength and agility matched his mind.
He became a legendary battlefield commander, winning through brutal axe work and calculated strategy, inspiring cult-like loyalty among his troops. As his influence grew, he openly criticized Lemuria’s ruling theocracy, calling them “the dullest blades in the armory.” His popularity spared him execution, but not punishment — he was exiled and sent to oversee the Grey-Rot Hive conflict at the Riverguard Forts.
Half his warriors deserted to follow him. He reorganized them into independent reaving bands and revived ancient blood rituals that make his armored troops temporarily impervious to the hydrophobic Hive Drones. Now, Veteris Rapax and his Blood Reavers dominate the southern front from D’Zaera’s Hook to the Forancroft Mountains. This isn’t just an army builder — this is a **major player** in the Savage Crucible world.

## 📦 WHAT’S IN THE BOX?
Harvinger Studios loaded him up.
Image: box back with a planet, white SAVAGE CRUCIBLE title, small red Crucible logo, and a vertical paragraph of story text on the left.
[
]
**Included:**
* Alternate head (helmeted & unhelmeted)
Image: A photo of two small action-figure parts lying on a smooth, light bluish-gray surface under strong light that casts long dark shadows to the right.
Top: a red spiked collar/shoulder-armor piece with silver spike tips and a bit of green-and-tan detail on the inside.
Bottom: a green reptile head piece with bumpy texture, an orange eye, and an open mouth showing the jaw shape.
[
]
* Extra set of hands
Image: A photo of four interchangeable green action-figure hands laid out on a smooth bluish-gray surface. They’re arranged roughly in a rectangle (two on top, two below), each with bumpy reptile-like texture, pinkish/red knuckles, and black claws; some are posed more open with fingers spread, and others are more curled as if gripping. Strong light from the left creates long, sharp shadows stretching to the right.
[
]
* 3 belt attachments: two sword holsters + whip loop
Image: A dramatic, low-light photo of two reptilian warrior action figures posed in a fight.
The figure in the foreground is crouched/lunging with its mouth open, wearing red spiked shoulder armor and red studded bracers and shin guards. It holds a short sword or dagger across its chest, the blade angled slightly upward. Above it, a second similar reptilian figure is partly in frame, posed as if attacking from above and holding a longer blade pointed downward toward the first.
The background is mostly dark, with a vertical yellow strip along the right side and a row of small bright white lights nearby, creating sharp highlights and long shadows.
[
]
* **4 brand-new unique weapons specific to Veteris Rapax:**
Image: A small coiled black accessory (looks like a whip or rope) lying on a smooth bluish-gray surface. It’s looped into a circle with a short straight handle segment and a small metallic-looking connector piece on one end. Strong light from the left casts a long shadow to the right, and the bottom of the photo is darkened by a broad shadow.
[
]
* Double-bladed axe
Image: A close-up photo of a fantasy-style double-headed battle axe accessory lying on a smooth bluish-gray surface. The axe is dark reddish-brown with a weathered, speckled finish; each blade is wide and jagged with notched edges, and there are small spike details near the center. A strong light from the left casts a long shadow to the right.
[
]
* Cutlass-style saber
Image: A close-up photo of a curved saber accessory lying horizontally on a smooth bluish-purple surface. The hilt is gold/bronze with a knuckle-guard, and the grip is dark (looks like black or very dark blue) with ribbed texture. The blade is long, slightly curved, and dark metallic with faint decorative patterns. Strong light from the left creates a shadow beneath and to the right of the hilt.
[
]
* Ornate shortsword (gladius-type)
Image: A close-up photo of a small straight sword accessory lying horizontally on a light gray surface. The hilt has a black grip and a gold guard and pommel. The blade is silver-gray with a dark central groove, and there are red paint streaks/splatter along the upper half of the blade that look like blood effects. Strong light from the left creates a soft shadow under the sword, and there’s a bluish tint along the left edge of the image.
[
]
* Ornate longsword
Image: A close-up photo of a small sword accessory lying horizontally on a light gray surface. The hilt is ornate and gold, with a curved crossguard that ends in two round knobs and a ribbed grip. The blade is straight, silver-gray with a darker central groove, and it has several red “blood” streaks across the middle-to-upper section. Bright flash lighting creates a faint shadow under the sword and a slight bluish cast along the left edge of the image.
[
]
He also includes the line’s **standard blind-bag bonus weapon** — a randomly packed extra blade that varies from figure to figure across Savage Crucible releases. It’s a fun extra, but not character-specific.
A character trading card is also included, featuring artwork on one side and RPG-style stats, skills, and saves on the other — a fantastic world-building touch.
Image: A shiny black resealable plastic pouch lying on a beige carpet. It has a clear zip-lock style seal strip across the top portion, and the glossy surface reflects the camera flash with a bright white glare near the center. No visible text on the bag.

## 🦎 SCULPT, BODY & THE REUSE DISCUSSION
Let’s address the reptile in the room: this is the familiar Savage Crucible lizardman body again. If you’re deep into the line, there’s definite déjà vu. The spiked armor lineage traces back to earlier releases, and the hands and general engineering are known territory. Lizardman fatigue is real.
Image: A close-up, blue-lit photo of an armored reptilian action figure posed as if leaping forward.
The figure has dark, bumpy/scaly skin and wears dark metallic armor with copper/orange edging and spikes, including a spiked shoulder/neck piece and bracers. Two swords are strapped across its back, with their handles and guards visible near the shoulder. A couple of white plastic twist ties/loops are still attached around the torso/weapon area. Very bright light from the right creates blown-out highlights on the arm and armor edges, while the background is blurred and dark with a colorful monster/dragon image visible behind.
[
]
That said, this is still one of the **best-engineered fantasy figure bodies** available.
* Around 7” scale
* Ball-jointed head + articulated jaw/mandible
* Butterfly shoulders with scapula system
* Double elbows & knees
* Chest/torso crunch that reviewers consistently praise
* Waist, hips, thigh rotation
* Multi-point articulated tail
* Armor that somehow **doesn’t kill poseability**
Image: A tight close-up of the reptilian warrior action figure’s head and upper torso. Its mouth is open, showing small white teeth, and the face is slightly out of focus in the foreground. The main focus is the large red spiked collar/shoulder armor, with several curved silver spikes along the edge. Behind and around it, you can see the figure’s green, bumpy/scaly skin with orange striping on the chest and neck area, plus bits of dark metallic armor. On the right side of the frame there’s a gold-colored weapon handle or hilt near the figure’s arm. The lighting is harsh, like a flash, creating shiny highlights on the red armor and strong shadows in the background.
[
]
The scale texturing is gorgeous, the sculpted detail is dense, and the helmet — evoking a triceratops horn core — gives him a distinctive silhouette. Just be careful: those armor spikes are sharp during part swaps.
Image: A close-up photo of a reptilian monster action figure. The creature has green, bumpy, scaly skin with orange striping along its back, and its head is angled downward with its mouth open, showing small teeth. Around its torso is red armor with multiple silver spikes protruding outward in a ring. On the right side of the image, one green clawed hand is visible with a red armored forearm.

## ⚔️ THE WEAPONS ARE THE REDEMPTION ARC
If you already own multiple versions of this body, the **four new character-specific weapons** are what make this release feel worthwhile. These aren’t generic troop blades — they look like the personal arsenal of a warlord. The ornate sculpting and blood detailing on some pieces add real personality.
Image: The left figure (partly cropped at the top) is standing with one leg slightly forward. It has green, bumpy scales with orange markings, red spiked armor, and a long silver blade positioned along its right side.
The right figure is fully visible and stands in a wide, ready stance. Its mouth is open, and it’s holding a curved gold sword angled forward. Its tail curves upward behind it. Both figures have red armor pieces on their arms and legs with silver studs/spikes and decorative patterns.
Behind them is a printed backdrop with stone arch shapes and dark tree silhouettes, in blocks of blue and red.

This is where the figure claws back value from the reuse factor.

## 😤 MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE: STORAGE
He comes armed like a walking armory… but only has **two sword holders** on his belt.
Four major weapons. Two slots.
If you use the whip loop, you’re effectively down to one. For a battlefield commander, that’s frustrating. Figures with this much gear should have better storage solutions. Nothing breaks immersion faster than a general who has to leave half his weapons off-display.
Image: Two reptilian warrior action figures standing upright on a surface in front of a printed backdrop.
The taller figure is on the left, seen mostly from the back/side. It has green scaly skin and red armor with silver swirl designs. A long silver sword is held or mounted along its right side, and another blade is visible near the left side. It also carries a large double-headed axe with a glittery purple finish, held down by its side. Red armored shin guards cover both legs, and a tail extends behind.
The shorter figure is on the right, also in green scales and red patterned armor. It has a curved tail raised behind it and appears to be holding a curved gold sword. Both figures have red spiky shoulder/neck armor and matching red leg armor.

## 🧩 CUSTOMIZER NOTES
Unlike the Shield of D’Zaera body, Veteris can’t swap to bare forearms or lower legs. The armor in those areas is permanent, limiting full “de-armored” looks. Customizers will need to color-match with other armor pieces instead of going for a stripped-down warrior style.
Image: A close-up of a white-and-yellow reptilian humanoid action figure, shown upright from the side and slightly below, with its head tilted back and mouth open to show rows of pointed teeth. The head is darker on top (gray/black), fading into lighter scales on the face and neck. The figure’s torso is brightly lit by a harsh light/flash, highlighting the bumpy scale texture. It’s wearing dark navy/black shorts, and part of one thigh is visible with blue-and-yellow markings. The background is dim and bluish, with a faint rectangular panel behind and a yellow vertical strip to the right. No readable text is visible.
[
]
However, if you own the Wave 1 character packs, the **Lemurian Savage parts** color-match very well with Veteris, opening up mix-and-match potential. I already cleared out my extra parts, so my two display configurations are all I’ll get — but the compatibility is there.

## 🤔 FINAL THOUGHTS
If this were the first Savage Crucible lizard figure I handled, I’d be losing my mind. Second or third? Still incredibly impressive. But coming after a long run of reptilian warriors, the visual impact doesn’t hit quite as hard — that’s collector saturation, not a design failure.
Image: A staged action-figure scene in front of a printed backdrop showing stone arches and dark tree branches, split into red (upper left) and blue (lower left) sections. On the far right edge there’s a vertical yellow strip and a gray surface.
In the foreground, a green reptilian warrior figure in red spiked armor stands behind a human female figure and is holding her by the neck/upper chest, lifting her off the ground. The reptile’s stance is wide and braced, with red armored shin guards and a long silver sword visible along its right side.
The woman has short dark hair and is dressed in a light gray/white jacket with black detailing, black pants, and black boots. Her body is angled diagonally in front of the reptile with both legs raised, one higher than the other, as if kicking while being held up. One arm reaches upward, and in the other hand she holds a loop of rope or lasso. Bright flash lighting creates glare and strong shadows.
[
]
What truly elevates Veteris Rapax is **character**. The exile commander, the blood-ritual tactics, the loyal deserters turned reavers — that lore transforms a reused body into a commanding centerpiece.
**As a figure:** Elite articulation, strong sculpt, great new weapons, poor storage
**As a character piece:** Top-tier addition to the Savage Crucible mythos
Image: A black-armored knight figure stands facing a green reptilian warrior in red spiked armor.
The knight is upright with both hands on a silver sword, holding it raised diagonally in front of the body like a guard. It wears a white tabard with a blue vertical stripe and a gold fleur-de-lis emblem.
The reptilian warrior is airborne or stepping forward with one leg lifted, gripping a large double-headed axe with both hands and holding it high overhead as if about to bring it down. A long blade is strapped along its right side.
[
]
Veteris Rapax proves something important:
Sometimes the **story** is the most powerful accessory in the box.
Image: Three figures are posed in a confrontation.
Center: a teal/blue reptilian warrior with darker armor and many spikes stands upright with arms spread. It holds a large curved silver blade across the front of its body.
Left: a green reptilian warrior in red spiked armor is lunging in from the side with its mouth open, swinging or pointing a curved gold sword toward the center figure.
Right: another green reptilian warrior in red spiked armor stands with legs apart, raising a weapon overhead (a dark axe or cleaver-like weapon) as if preparing to strike the center figure.
